![]() ![]() Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer are the other two players on the unplugged set proving what many say, the KISS unmasked line up are better musicians than the original four. The band line up on this KISS release is the most complete of any in the KISS collection as it features the forefathers of KISS in Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. Even unplugged, this KISS performance has an atmosphere that is simply electric! What was even more expected was the result. Most who attend a KISS concert describe the atmosphere as “electric.” So, it was unexpected when the band turned up on MTV’s popular Unplugged series back when MTV had music related programming or allowed artists on the station that actually play musical instruments. Jon Grindstaff – conductor and string arrangements (11) Peter Criss – drums and vocals (12 to 15), lead vocals (13) Yeah, well you apparently don't like listening to rock and roll.Bruce Kulick – guitar and vocals (1 to 11, 14, 15)Įric Singer – drums and vocals (1 to 11, 14, 15)Īce Frehley – guitar and vocals (12 to 15), lead vocals (12) An emotional response - hahaha, you're lame dude. Yeah, well you apparently don't like listening to rock and roll. Kinda like Prince reclaiming "Nothing Compares 2 U" - just kinda He must have thought to himself "now it is my turn, dammit" Some bands at the time were having some success with unplugged versions of songs, so why not Hard Luck Woman. It wouldn't surprise me if Paul thought that maybe KISS could have a resurgence with that song and if so - better that he sing it over Peter or Garth for that matter. Why let the opinion of others spoil your enjoyment of The Rolling Stones? I don't like listening to them nor do I rate Mick & Keith as "two of the very greatest rock and rollers in history". They are in a stratosphere far, far above Kiss. What a dumb comment about two of the very greatest rock and rollers in history. Good lord, if you think Mick and Keith are even the slightest "overrated", I'll never be able to take anything you say music-related seriously. I agree, Ace's version is still better than the original (from what I remember). Yes, well the problem is exactly the "always-massively-overrated Mick and Keith", in other words, the song itself isn't good. New York Groove I can appreciate but 2,000 Man is crap.Ĭrap? He did a good job taking a decent idea, but executed very poorly by the always-massively-overrated Mick and Keith, and turning it into something interesting. A totally unnecessary song that should never have been recorded by Kiss. I wrote it, you're not in the band, I will sing it.Ī good question: why? I've never liked it. Would have made for a nice story and teary eyes. ![]() Plus also considering that old heartwarming story of their first time playing together with Peter again after over a decade at one of the conventions doing "Hard Luck Woman". I like PC’s voice but on this particular song the few times I’ve heard Paul sing it he’s always made me wish they had recorded it with his voice in 1976.Ĭonsidering they were going for a Rod Stewart type thing with that song if we are to believe the story that Paul wrote it for Rod, then clearly Peter is better suited for that with a similar raspy voice. ![]() His voice is just more melodic than Peter’s. The mind boggling part of that whole deal was paul singing hard luck woman while peter was backstage waiting. I believe '2000 Man''s inclusion on 'Unplugged' was ultimately down to (as someone mentioned before) the solo in 'Shock Me' not sounding great on acoustic. We have fellow KISS fans on here who only like the non-makeup era too! I think it's cool that people like different aspects of the band. To me, all of the make-up era albums and Lick It Up are the 'classic' period but to some who got into the band in the 70s (or perhaps in the Reunion era) the first 6 studio LPs are the 'classic' time for the band. It's interesting how we as fans see the band differently depending on when we got into them. Actually, didn't Ace play bass on the record? It's probably just him, Paul and Anton on there. They'd 'fessed up to Anton being on Unmasked but not on Dynasty yet, and Peter had played the song enough on tour anyway for it to be at least a song he was connected too. Re the original 4 not playing on the record, that was still officially under wraps at that point I think. It was featured on the Dynasty Tour (and possibly Unmasked tour? I could be wrong on that) and I've always associated it far more with Ace than with the Stones (whose version is very, very different). I got into KISS in 1980 and '2000 Man' seemed as much an Ace signature tune as 'Shock Me' at that point in time. ![]()
